Depersonalisation Disorder

Suffering from depersonalisation disorder means feeling cut off from yourself, or that you are not real. You might feel like a robot who is not in control of your speech or movements, or that you are in a dream. It could affect your functioning in relationships or at work, and you could feel anxious or depressed because of it.

Episodes of depersonalisation can be quite brief and may occur only rarely, or can last for years or be chronic. They often develop after a traumatic event.

Depersonalisation disorder is primarily treated with psychological therapy. You will explore your feelings about any traumatic event that triggered the disorder, and learn to avoid feeling panicky or depressed because of your symptoms.
